Code of Conduct

Introduction

To ensure a respectful, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all participants—both visually impaired athletes and guides—members are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:

1. Punctuality and Attendance

  • Arrive no later than 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. This allows time for warm-up, pairing guide and athlete, and respecting everyone’s time.
  • If you are running late or unable to attend, notify the group leader through WhatsApp or the provided contact number no later than 15 minutes before the start time. The group will leave 5-10 minutes after the scheduled start time.
  • Members who are consistently late (3 or more times), will have a check-in conversation with the group leader to understand the circumstances and determine how best to move forward.

2. Respect and Inclusion

  • We strive to create a space that is welcoming to all.
  • Treat all participants (athletes, guides, and volunteers) with respect and patience.
  • Listen actively and avoid interrupting other during discussions or announcements.
  • Share any concerns related to respect and inclusion with the group leader.

3. Safety First

  • Follow all safety guidelines provided by the club.
  • Always remain attentive during the run. Guides must be aware of the surroundings, people, obstacles and all potential hazards.
  • Guides must communicate clearly and consistently throughout the run and athletes must listen to the direction provided by their guide.
  • Where possible, keep to the side of the road or path, and avoid running in the middle of the road.
  • Inform a group leader if you observe any unsafe conditions or require assistance during a run.
  • Athletes and guides both must let the person they are running with know immediately if they experience any discomfort, pace is too fast or slow, or need to stop. Running with a guide is a partnership and the run must be safe for both individuals.

4. Preparedness

  • Ensure that you wear the appropriate clothing and shoes for the conditions, to prevent injuries.  If you are not sure, ask the group leader.
  • Bring any necessary personal gear (e.g. water, gels, gloves, etc)

5. Substance Use

  • Refrain from attending the runs under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

6. Respect our Space

  • Keep shared and common areas (i.e. CNIB office) clean by disposing your waste, leaving the space as you found it.

7. Communication

  • Share any concerns or suggestions with the group leaders in a constructive manner.
  • Be open and transparent in all interactions within the group.
  • Respond promptly to messages or communications regarding group activities.

8. Confidentiality and Privacy

  • Respect the privacy of other members. Do not share personal information, photos, or videos without consent.

Consequences for non-adherence

Failure to adhere to this code of conduct may result in a warning, temporary suspension, or removal from the group, depending on the severity of the issue. The group leader or an appointed committee will address violations in a fair and unbiased manner.

Conclusion

By following this code of conduct, we aim to create a thriving community built on mutual respect, shared goals, and the joy of running. Together, we can ensure the group remains a positive and enriching space for all participants.
